What is a Medium?

How Medium Readings Work
During your medium reading, Ryka connects with your departed loved ones through her gifts of clairaudience (hearing messages), clairvoyance (seeing images), clairsentience (feeling emotions), and claircognizance (knowing information). You may hear specific messages, descriptions, memories, or affirmations that validate your connection to those who have passed. Sessions are guided by Spirit, meaning Ryka shares exactly what comes through without censorship. You are welcome to ask questions, but often Spirit will take over to deliver what you need to hear most in that moment. Readings are honest, loving, and focused on bringing you peace and clarity.
What to Expect During a Session
During a Medium reading, a wide range of experiences may occur. Sometimes Ryka receives very physical information, such as a familiar gesture associated with the deceased loved one or physical symptoms that the deceased experienced towards the end of their life. At other times, Ryka hears messages from your Spirit Guides that describe the person who has passed or a situation related to your loved one. She is also able to speak directly with those who have crossed over if the connection is needed for healing and growth. A Mediumship reading can be a source of comfort, clarity, healing, and closure.
Ryka is highly skilled in helping you navigate your grief and healing process. Ryka is a compassionate listener who has assisted many people, both young and old, on their healing journey after loss.

Medium Frequently Asked Questions
Explore our medium frequently asked questions to learn about connecting with loved ones, what to expect during a session, and how Ryka’s mediumship can help you.
What do I need to do to prepare for a Mediumship session?
I suggest that you write down detailed questions and concerns and that you “speak” to your loved ones before your session. This helps increase the likelihood that your loved ones will show up.
I find that photos often provide a gateway to additional information. Please gather photos of anyone you would like to ask questions about, whether they are living or deceased. In the photo, the person or pet in question should be positioned close to the lens, with eyes looking straight ahead, no dark glasses, and the eye structures must be clearly visible. Photos of printed photos are not desirable. Digital images work much better. (PLEASE DO NOT SEND RYKA ANYTHING BEFORE YOUR SESSION) Everything will be done in real time, during your session.
I strongly recommend that you record your session for two reasons. First, your recording serves as a valuable resource that you can refer back to for clarity and additional information. Second, I cannot answer questions about what was said after your session has ended, simply because I will not remember. When we talk to schedule your appointment, I will share with you several options for recording your session.
Can you connect with a loved one who doesn’t speak English?
Here’s a funny story that demonstrates that language is absolutely not a barrier to our connecting with your loved ones. This was many years ago, when I was living in the Austin area. A long-time client from South Texas went to visit her aunt in California. Her aunt’s primary language was Spanish, although she spoke some English. They decided that both women needed to be present for her aunt’s session.
During the psychic medium session, after each question and answer given by Spirit, the two women would speak in Spanish to ensure the aunt was clearly receiving all the information that Spirit had to offer. Later in the session, the aunt was asking questions about each of her five siblings. When the aunt asked about her brother, for whom she was very concerned, I started hearing Spirit say, “Tiny Dancer, tiny dancer.”
I interrupted the women and asked about that phrase because it kept repeating in my head; the voice was insistent. There was quite a bit of Spanish spoken, and then the niece explained to me that her grandmother, the aunt’s mother, who only spoke Spanish, had created a song for each of her six children.
A portion of the Aunt’s personal song translates to the phrase, “Tiny dancer, tiny dancer.” Her mother was speaking directly to her! At this point, the aunt was so moved by this connection that she needed to understand the message more clearly. I gently explained that our loved ones don’t always have enough energy to communicate fully, so they send semi-cryptic messages across the veil that are meaningful to those who are still here, embodied in the world of the living. Her mother was saying, “I see what’s going on with your brother, and I am here.” At this point, I shared that I had goose bumps all over! That only happens when truth has been spoken!
Can I share my Mediumship session with my adult child?
I do not suggest sharing a session with an adult child because the needs of a surviving spouse are very different from those of a child who has lost a parent. Through my work, the personal nature of what comes up when working with Spirit is quite intimate. I suggest that children and parents have separate sessions. I always recommend that you record every session so you can relisten to it and can also share any part of the session with friends or family. This prevents overexposure of private and personal information. I also find that parents often want to protect their children from their strong emotional reactions and sometimes the reverse is true as well.
Does it matter how long it has been since my loved one has passed?
I have spoken to newly deceased people who needed assistance and those who have crossed over many decades ago. Not everyone is ready to communicate immediately after they have transitioned. There appears to be no set period of time when a deceased person is ready to talk with us. It is an individual process.
Do I need to be in person for my reading, or can it be done remotely?
Psychic and Mediumship work is not distance-dependent. I have worked with clients worldwide. (Please remember, I always guarantee my work. If, for any reason, within the first 30 minutes of a session, you feel that I haven’t connected accurately, or if I am unable to connect, I will issue a refund minus my credit card processing fee. So, you really have nothing to lose.)
